The river flowed 131 cm above the danger level at Kanaighat and 25 cm above at Sylhet city\, leading to severe flooding across 864 villages. In Sylhet alone\, approximately 371\,000 people are stranded\, and many have lost their homes and livelihoods. \nAmong the hardest-hit areas is Purba Muria in Beanibazar. The people here are in dire need of our support. Thousands are facing severe food shortages\, with little to no access to basic necessities. DESCRIPTION:Heavy rains and flash floods from the upstream have left millions of people in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts stranded and a large number of them are without shelter & power. Sylhet district’s Gowainghat\, Kanaighat\, Companiganj\, Jaintapur\, and Sylhet Sadar upazilas are the most affected along with parts of Sylhet city that lies beside the Surma river. Sunamganj town is among the worst hit as almost all areas in the town have been flooded along with low-lying areas of Chhatak\, Dowarabazar\, Sunamganj Sadar\, Bishwambarpur and Tahirpur upazilas. \nAccording to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center\, at 9 am today (June 17\, 2022)\, the Surma river water is flowing 108 cm above the danger level at Kanaighat point in Sylhet\, 70 cm above the Sylhet city point and 120 cm above the Sunamganj town point.\nThe Sarigowain river is flowing 23 cm above the danger level at Sarighat in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet while Puratan Surma river is flowing 2 cm above the danger level at Dirai in Sunamganj. \nShah Foundation & Moinul Islam (Mega Homes Realty) Stand with Sylhet & Sunamganj Flood Affected People. DESCRIPTION:Ripon Saha is a meritorious student of Koralia village in Chhotbaishadia union of Rangabali upazila of Patuakhali in Bangladesh.\n\n\nOne eye can see the light of the world\, but the other eye is covered with flesh. Ripon can regain his normal vision only if he can perform the operation at a cost of only three lakh taka. But it is not possible to provide for poor families.\nRipon’s father\, Joydev Saha\, said: “I consulted a doctor a month ago. They said I had to undergo surgery in three steps.”\nShah Foundation stands by Ripon. DESCRIPTION:In Assam rural areas\, the incidence of poverty is the highest among agricultural and other labor (as high as 76 per cent and 80 per cent respectively)\, followed by self-employed in agriculture and self-employed in non-agriculture in that order. Among the social groups incidence of poverty is higher among the scheduled castes as compared to that among scheduled tribes. Incidence of poverty in rural Assam is similar to that at the all-India level whereas poverty in urban Assam is much lower than that observed for urban areas at the all-India level.
